Drops and loot filter

How Project Lage drops more loot, which new items drop how often, and the built-in loot filter.

More loot for everyone

Every game drops as if 5 players were in it, even when you play alone. The game lowers each monster's chance to drop nothing as more players join; Project Lage bakes that in for one player, and real players in your game lower it further.

On the ladder the /players command is off: ladder games already drop like this, and /players 8 on top would give far more. In single player /players still works and adds to it, with tougher monsters and more experience as usual.

Ladder games scale like Battle.net: monster life, experience and drops count only the players really in your game, and the Offline Difficulty Scaling slider stays at 1. This uses RuffnecKk's PlayerX Scaling Tweaks plugin (MIT), which Project Lage installs for you; single player isn't affected.

Higher runes drop more often: in the rune drop chain, each rune is 2 times as likely compared to the step down to the rune below it, so a rune roll stops earlier on its way down.

The act bosses (Andariel, Duriel, Mephisto, Diablo and Baal) drop their quest loot on every kill, on every difficulty, not only the first time you kill them on the quest. In terror zones they drop higher level items with the same quest chances for uniques, sets and rares, and no gold or junk.

Bosses never drop potions, quivers, keys or Town Portal and Identify scrolls and tomes. That goes for the act bosses, the other quest bosses (like Radament and Nihlathak), every named boss and every map boss; those rolls go to the rest of their loot.

Monsters and chests drop Arrows and Bolts 100 times less often than in the base game, since a quiver holds 500, vendors sell them and they refill themselves. Everything else drops as often as before, and Barbed, Heavy, Razor and Siege quivers keep their own rates.

There are no super chests: the special chests in the Lower Kurast huts, crypts, Arcane Sanctuary, Maggot Lair, tombs, Kurast temples and River of Flame are ordinary chests with ordinary chest loot.

Loot filter

Project Lage comes with a loot filter. Important drops get a line in the drop list at the top left of the screen (up to 10 lines, each shown for 20 seconds), runes show their number in orange, orbs are purple and maps gold. The high runes Pul to Zod have spoken drop sounds: a voice calls the rune's name. The rules, top to bottom (the first rule that matches decides):

Choosing and editing filters: click Loot filter in the launcher and pick Standard (these rules) or one of your own filters from the list. Edit or New makes your own copy of the rules to change (in Saved Games\Diablo II Resurrected\mods\ProjectLage\lootfilters), and you can keep several. Put standard-rules: no at the top of your file to leave the standard rules out.

Important: your own filter does not replace the standard one. The standard rules are always active, added after your own rules. For an item one of your rules matches, your rule decides; every item none of your rules matches still gets the standard rule, so items that come with an update get their names too.

In testing Grey items are hidden: Crude, Cracked, Damaged and Low Quality items don't show on the ground. The launcher adds a Project Lage profile to the game's own loot filter (Esc > Loot Filter) and picks it for every character that doesn't have a profile yet. Pick another profile there, or none, to see them again; your choice stays.

Next update No filter at all: tick Remove default loot filter in the launcher's Loot filter window to switch Project Lage's rules off completely, so every item shows its full name. With one of your own filters picked, only your rules count, so you can write a filter from scratch.

Guide: the Guide button in the launcher's Loot filter window lists everything a rule can use: every match and show key, all colour codes, qualities, light pillars, sounds, item types, rune numbers and the code of every item in the game, with a search box. It is made from the installed mod, so new items show up by themselves.

Healing potions show a short red name by strength: H1 is a Minor Healing Potion, H2 Light, H3 Healing, H4 Greater and H5 Super.

Mana potions show as blue M1 (Minor) to M5 (Super), and rejuvenation potions as purple R1 (Rejuvenation) and R2 (Full Rejuvenation).

In testing Other potions are short too: a white S is a Stamina Potion, a green A an Antidote Potion, an orange T a Thawing Potion, and every throwing potion is just a green gas or an orange oil.

Rules that level with you: in your own filter file a rule can say level: 15-99, so it only counts while your character is that level. That way a rule can silence items in the drop list once you outgrow them. Names, sounds and pillars stay the same at every level, since the game sets them when it starts.

Light pillars: high runes, our orbs and the Spellbook glow with a pillar of light where they lie. In your own filter file a rule that matches by code, rune or type can add pillar: light, pillar: bright, pillar: beam, pillar: fire, pillar: cold, pillar: lightning, pillar: green or pillar: off. Pillars work on runes, gems, charms, jewels, keys, orbs and maps.
