The orbs
Every orb drops on its own, exactly as often as the rune named on its card: it sits next to that rune in the drop tables with the same weight, so any monster that can drop the rune drops the orb just as often.
Corruption Orb
Item level 75 · As common as a Pul rune; in Tier 3 maps, as common as a Lem rune
Shift + Left-click it, then click a weapon or armor: corrupts it (one random property, or it fails and becomes a corrupted rare)
Orb of Shifting
Item level 60 · As common as an Um rune
Cube with a magic item: rerolls its magic properties
Orb of Remaking
Item level 70 · As common as an Um rune
Cube with a rare item: rerolls its rare properties
Orb of Ascension
Item level 75 · As common as an Um rune
Cube with a magic item: turns it into a rare item
Socketsmith's Box
Item level 70 · As common as a Vex rune
Cube with a white item without sockets: maximum sockets
Cube it with a rare or unique without sockets and Transmute (or Shift + Left-click it, then click the item): 1 to 3 sockets (2 most often)
Orb of Fortune
Item level 80 · As common as a Mal rune
Cube with a unique or set item: rerolls it (it can fail and become rare)
Spellbook
Item level 85 · Doesn't drop from monsters yet
The long forgotten Spellbook of Zhar the Mad
Cube it with a magic item and see its power
Corruption
Shift + left-click the Corruption Orb, then click a weapon or armor. The item gets one random property from its slot's list below and is marked Corrupted. In about 26% of uses it bricks instead: the item is rerolled as a corrupted rare of the same base and item level.
In testing Put the Corruption Orb and one weapon, armor or quiver alone in the Horadric Cube and press Transmute. It works on every base, and a corrupted item can't be corrupted again.

Sockets
The Socketsmith's Box adds sockets two ways. In the Horadric Cube with a normal or superior weapon or armor without sockets, it gives the item as many sockets as its base allows. Alone in the cube with a rare or unique item without sockets, it rolls: 1 socket 25%, 2 sockets 50%, 3 sockets 25%. The game caps the sockets by the item's level as well as its base, so a low-level item may only get 1.
In testing New odds: 1 socket 40%, 2 sockets 45%, 3 sockets 15%, capped only by what the item's base can hold (where it can't hold 3, the 3 becomes 2), so low-level uniques get 2 and 3 sockets too.
To take socketed items out again, cube the item with a Hel rune and a Scroll of Identify: you keep the item and get back every gem, rune and jewel.
